How To Use Social Media To Grow Your Ecommerce Business

I Am Black History

The month of February was amazing! I flew out to Texas to celebrate my granddaughter’s first birthday. I was a part of Black Owned Business Expo at Hanes Mall in Winston Salem, NC. I got my first FBA (Filled By Amazon) order and all three items available have been selling very well.

When I think about all that I’ve accomplished through my handcrafted women’s fashion accessory brand Accented Glory, I realize the legacy I’m building for my children and grandchildren. I Am Black History and will continue to celebrate everyday.

3 Things to Consider Before Joining a Holiday Gift List

Someone recently invited me to be a part of a magazine’s holiday gift list. When I asked for more information, they sent me a fee amount to participate. That was a red flag…no one has ever charged me to be on their holiday gift list. I’ve never heard of the magazine, so I did a Google search and decided to decline their offer. I’ve been in this marketing game long enough to know all visibility isn’t GOOD visibility.

When selecting visibility opportunities like gift lists, it’s three things you should take into consideration.

  • Platform Audience – Do your research and determine if the platform serves your ideal customer. Since it was a gift list, will the platform audience be buying for your ideal customer? The content on the platform will answer this for you. The topics shared will interest your ideal customer or someone buying for them. In addition, is your ideal customer represented in the platform photos? When folks see themselves represented, they’re more comfortable with purchasing.
  • Platform Stats – Any reputable platform will be willing to provide you with their stats. The number of readers and demographics is important. It helps you assess the quality of visibility you’re going to get. This is another way to ensure the platform serves your target audience.
  • Platform Social Media – Research the platform’s account; check out the number of followers and engagement (likes, comments, shares, etc.). Ask if content you’re a part of will be shared on the platform’s social media pages. This is another way to optimize visibility.

All collaborations should be a win-win for everyone involved. Make sure you get a clear understanding of benefits of your participation and what’s expected from you.

Words of Wisdom For Event Vending Success

Black woman shopping at a popup shop.

There is always room for improvement when it comes to vending events and pop-up shops! Whether you’re a product or service based business, a great customer experience is one of the keys for vending event success!

This post will show you how to create an amazing customer journey for vending events and pop-ups!

Vendors who implement the tips below will provide a memorable experience. Happy customers are the best form of advertisement because satisfied customers make great referrals.

Being In The Flow

Selecting a vending spot that’s in the entry path flow of customers is key. Vendors who don’t do this are usually too far down the customer flow line and possibly miss a sale opportunity. By the time the customer reach your booth, they may be low on funds or has lost interest in supporting.

The way to avoid this is to get to the event early and pick a spot to set up that’s close to the entry where customers will arrive. It’s important to be one of the first vendors they see and engage with. Welcome them into your space and share how your products or services will meet their needs!

Clutter Free And Organized

Making sure your display is clutter free and organized is another way to improve the customer experience. Not having your display in an orderly fashion can be a turn off to some customers. Too many options can also be distracting and confusing. It’s important to make the customer journey distraction free; customers who can easily make a decision are more apt to purchase.

Putting out one of each of your products helps with this. If your products are available in different variations simply make the buyer aware of those options. Also group like or complimentary products together for cross and upselling. The pairing may inspire buyer to get multiple products!

Make Buying Easy

Make it easy for customers to purchase your products! If you don’t have a variety of payment options you can possibly miss a sale.

Believe it or not, a lot of people still buy with cash! Always bring change for these transactions. I also recommend investing in a cordless bluetooth payment device that accepts credit/debit cards and Apple/Google Pay.

Being in the flow, display organization, and buying ease will help you provide a great customer experience. Happy customers and word of mouth are still the best and most effective marketing tool. Creating an amazing customer journey will pave the way for vending success!

One of my most profitable vending experiences was at a local church conference where attendees had less than an hour to shop! I had to activate my vending super shero senses to maximize the selling opportunity. I was in the flow, organized, and made buying easy!
