One of my annual self-care practices is creating a vision board. A vision board is basically a visual representation of your intentions. I put mine up in my home office. It’s a reminder of what I want to accomplish and helps me refocus when I get off track.
On Sunday, February 3rd I will hosting a Vision Board Party! This will be a fun filled event that I’ll be facilitating. What makes my workshops unique is that you leave with a plan of action to accomplish your goal(s). After the workshop, there’s nothing to it, but to do it. Also, I provide all the supplies to create your vision board and snacks to get your creativity flowing. All you have to bring to the party is yourself! I blogged that I hired a nutritionist to create a personal meal plan a few months ago. My focus was to reduce my BMI (Body Mass Index) based on a recent health assessment from my 9-5 job. As I shared in my December post Nutrition: The Missing Link, the foods recommended in the meal plan I already had in my kitchen! It was simply a matter of eating the right foods in combination, increasing my water intake, and exercising regularly.
During this journey, I’ve learned much about clean eating and its benefits. Clean eating is primarily about meal preparation and nutritious food choices. I’ve also experimented with some quick and easy recipes recommended by my nutritionist that accommodated my busy lifestyle.
Within three months, I lost a total of 20 pounds and 16 inches! I lost the most inches from my waist; 8 inches to be exact. I reached a few weight plateaus during the process but, increasing my water intake and exercise was a quick resolve.
Overall, this was a wonderful and much-needed experience. I decided to continue with the nutrition plan and have since exceeded my initial weight loss goal of 20 pounds! I’m so glad that I made my health a priority and sought the service of a nutritionist. My nutritionist ShLanda at Balanced By Burton was very knowledgeable and my biggest cheerleader. We’re celebrating Black History Month! Join us for “My Sister’s Keeper” on Saturday, February 25th at 4pm at Westridge Place Apartments Clubhouse, 100 Donner Dr, Salisbury NC. We will have a panel discussion about financial literacy, group economics, and community development. The Vine Events
In November, I started a new journey. I hired a nutritionist with hopes of maintaining my health. I recently took an extensive health assessment at my job and my only low score had been my BMI (Body Mass Index). After talking with my company nurse, we both concluded that because I exercise regularly and have good eating habits my blood work and other assessments were great!
Being 40+ and on no medications, I was pleased with my results, however my BMI still bothered me. I decided to hire a nutritionist. I had a consult with the nutritionist and in a few days she sent me my eating plan. Interesting enough, everything that was on my plan I already had in my kitchen! So, I was eating the right foods, but not the right combination of foods. I also wasn’t drinking enough water and getting proper rest.
I have been amazed at the difference these small changes have made. Not only have I lost weight, but I’ve lost inches in my chest, waist, and hips. I finally realized that nutrition was the missing link in my health plan. Shout out to my nutritionist ShLanda of Balanced By Burton. She is very knowledgeable and has been my biggest cheerleader!
