New Beginnings-The Vine Events Chat Cafe
With a new year comes new beginnings and The Vine Events is taking our RealTalk events to the next level. This month, we will host our first “The Vine Events Chat Cafe”.
While researching the art of conversation, we ran across the topic of conversation salons and this was our inspiration for Chat Cafe. The conversation salon was an Italian invention in the 16th century. During these gatherings, participants would discuss current events, exchange ideas, and encourage activism.
Our Chat Cafe is for individuals who are seeking a mini break from electronic communication and is interested in engaging in face-to-face dialogue. The Chat Cafe will offer the combination of great food and conversation in a cozy environment. Our chats will not only be informative but, also interactive and encourage open discussion.
So, if you’re looking to examine social issues face-to-face and not behind a user name, we invite you to join us for our monthly Chat Cafe. This will be a great opportunity to expand your knowledge and build relationships with people from diverse backgrounds.
Our first Chat Cafe will be on Saturday, January 19th at 10:00AM in Salisbury, NC. We will be continuing our discussion titled “My Sister Keeper”. Participants from our first discussion in November stated on their evaluations that they wanted to go “deeper” and address each root issue that was identified. We listened and we’re looking forward to more intriguing dialogue.
The cost of this event is $10 per person. To reserve your seat, click on the donate button below. The directions to event location will be emailed to those who RSVP so, please enter your email address on PayPal payment page. Thanks and see you there!

October: Diversity Awareness Month
This October as the leaves change colors and fall to the ground, allow your perspective to do the same. Let your guards down and embrace diversity. After all, October is Diversity Awareness Month. Just as there are variety of yellows, oranges, and reds outside, there are also a variety of identities, nationalities, religions, sexual orientations, and disability statuses.
Diversity Awareness Month is a time to reflect on aspects of cultural diversity. It is not only a chance to learn from each other’s differences; it’s also an opportunity to discover what you have in common with others and build a stronger community.
Friday, October 5th, is National Diversity Day. We encourage you to visit National Diversity Day official website at http://www.nationaldiversityday.com/Ideas_for_NDD.html for great ideas about how to get involved in the celebration of diversity. Participation is simple, easy, and fun; simply embrace who you and others are. For example, get to know your neighbor better, host a cultural potluck dinner, or pledge to learn more about another nationality.
This October, take the time to reflect on and learn about different cultures. You never know who you might have something in common with. Happy Diversity Awareness Month!

August: What Will Be Your Legacy?
How do you question your legacy? Before you make decisions, do you consider how your actions will affect others? Do you weigh the impact that your choices will have on the future generations? If you don’t ponder these questions daily, then August will be the perfect month to start. August is “What Will Be Your Legacy” month. It is a time to examine the effectiveness of your life and plan what will be your legacy.
Leaving behind a legacy can be simple. You don’t have to succeed at ensuring world peace, or single handedly solving world issues. Nor do you have to possess something tangible of great value to pass on to your descendants. You can leave a legacy, simply by being a good friend or example. You never know who is watching you, or who you will inspire with your actions. To imprint your legacy upon others, merely live life to its fullest, take advantage of opportunities, and watch how you change lives one positive action at a time.

July: National Purposely Parenting Month
As we all know, parenting is a job that comes without an instruction manual. It’s a position that requires on the job training. The month of July commemorates National Purposely Parenting Month. This month we would like to encourage parents and guardians to strengthen the bond between themselves and their children regardless of their age.
Our first relational experience is with our parents. Parents have the ability to shape the lives of their children by establishing boundaries, instilling values, and building self-esteem. How most adults relate to others is usually a direct reflection of the relationship they had/have with their parents. Parents have to lead and teach through example. They cannot have expectations of their children that they’re not willing to assume for themselves.
Parents and guardians, during this month, engage in activities that will enhance your relationship with your children. It could be something as simple as sitting down and having dinner together. This time could be used to allow each family member to share their experiences of the day. For more family activity ideas please visit http://www.ehow.com/info_7895695_list-activities-family.html.

April: Earth Month
This month go green and save green! April 22nd is Earth Day, but many communities extend it into a week or month long celebration. Earth Day was first recognized in 1970 and was initially intended to promote ecology and respect for life on the planet Earth. Many activities during Earth Month encourage awareness about increasingly vital environmental issues such as global warming and nuclear hazards. These events also urge people to fight against air, water, and soil pollution.
Conscious efforts to protect our planet should be an all year round goal. There are several ways to reach this goal and to take better care of the planet that does not require huge deviations from accustomed routines. For example, turn off lights when you aren’t using them and replace incandescent light bulbs with energy saving florescent ones. Carpool with your co-workers and friends and/or consider public transportation. Either option cuts down on gas expenses and the pollution that enters the atmosphere when you travel. You can save water by cutting down on the time you spend in the shower and not leaving water running in sink while brushing your teeth. You’ll not only save water, but see a savings on your water bill. Also, be sure to recycle when opportunities are presented, reusable water bottles are always more eco-friendly and less expensive than purchasing traditional plastic water bottles.
For more information about Earth Day, visit www.earthday.org. To learn more about environmental issues and how you can help reverse these issues, check out www.usagain.com.
This Earth Month, be sure you enjoy nature and become more conscious about how your actions are affecting the planet. Think about what you can do to protect our planet and reverse damages that have already been done to it. Happy Earth Month!

March: Women’s History Month
Women’s History Week was initially created by the Education Task Force of the Sonoma County Commission (California) on the Status of Women in 1978. It was chosen during the week of March 8th so that it would coincide with International Women’s Day. In 1981, Women’s History Week received national recognition by a joint Congressional resolution. In 1987, Congress extended into a month-long celebration. Today, Women’s History Month is an international celebration.
This year’s theme for the commemorative month is “Women’s Education – Women’s Empowerment”. The Vine Event Planning will be commemorating Women’s History Month by thinking outside the box for our monthly online event on our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/TheVineEventPlanning. We understand that school or college is not the only place education occurs. We will highlight women who educate and empower women from various aspects of education. So, from the hair stylist to the workout instructor and from the poet to the professor; we will cover it all!
This month, we encourage you to celebrate women by researching the accomplishments of women in your area of interests and/or by simply holding a causal conversation about a woman you admire with a fellow employee or friend. To find more information about Women’s History Month go to http://www.infoplease.com/womens-history-month/.
